President’s Cup And Possible Contenders

Those who have been looking at the playoffs and the performance of the different players in these, they will also realize that many who have a possibility of winning the millions at the end of the FedEx playoffs will also be part of the team for President’s Cup.

Indeed, the top ten contenders are already known that include several names such as Kevin Kisner, Kevin Chappell, Daniel Berger and others. Charley Hoffman is another first timer who nearly made the list, but he got bumped when Chappell made the list. However, the team captain Steve Stricker might still consider him as he has two picks of his own among the players available and qualified.

Many state that Phil Mickelson would be the other pick by the captain as Lefty tied for the sixth position at the TPC Boston tournament and reduced his chances considerably. Stricker might go outside these evident names and look at others, such as Brian Harman, who has had a tough year, Patrick Cantlay who has played well, but in limited ways while Tony Finau was perfect with the four balls. Among the Internationals there are certain players such as Adam Hadwin who secured the tenth position or others like Emiliano Grillo or Hideto Tanihara.

There are certain players who ended their season at the Boston championship as they failed to retain their position in the top 70 as per the points they gathered. These are names like Adam Scott, Harold Varner III, Bubba Watson, Chris Stroud, Patrick Rodgers and others. McIlroy has been battling a rib injury that made him a non factor when the playoff opening events started. He could not avail of the title defense opportunity as well at TPC Boston. His season will soon come to an end and it remains to be seen how he performs at the BMW championships.

Fowler After Fast U.S. Open Start Not Losing Control

The problem with hype is that it has a date of expiry.

In case Rickie Fowler, this seems very true. No young golfer in the recent time has been enjoyed so much hyped as the Rickie Fowler enjoyed. It was because of the combined effect of the initiative sponsors and the loyalty of his supporter. Since the player’s starting days of the PGA Tour, Fowler has continued to peak until, well, it expired.

But, it is not his fault and not even of his close ones. The Younger players Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth got the similar hype and they won major championships right away. They followed the path of Tiger Woods, who had the dominance over the game for a long period of time.

No major was won by Fowler and even not yet. So far, he has appeared in 29 career major, but he hasn’t won any championship still. Nevertheless, he came close, with top-5 finishes for the five times in his career, including at all four majors of 2014. Unlike Spieth and McIlroy and many other players who have won the events, he has never experienced the sense that remains a mix of relief and delight that comes after winning one. But, that is perfectly all right.

Dustin Johnson, who is the defending champion in the 2017 U.S. Open, didn’t win even a single major until he was 32. The same is the story of Phil Mickelson, until 33 he was famously shut out. Sergio Garcia until 37 didn’t get the monkey off his back.
These cite an example why, after having an opening-round 7-under-par 65, Fowler wasn’t nervous or anxious about the victory.

In an interview he said, I have to play a lot of golf and with every win or lose, I gain experience which works for me.

Lee Westwood Second Best After Garcia

Lee Westwood might not have won the Masters this year, but he is still considered the best, indeed, besides the one who won the Masters.

The honors for that title go to Sergio Garcia this year. Even before Garcia won the Masters, Lee was without doubt considered the best player even if he is yet to achieve a Major title. Indeed, the process of assessing and judging candidates as per the number of victories they have had the number of times they have played in the majors and come close to getting a win has long been established that makes it easy to assess the capabilities of the different players.

For instance, Tom Kite was found to have won the United States Open in 1992 at the age of 42. There were several successors lined up such as Corey Pavin, who won the same tournament and Davis Love III who won the 1997 PGA Championship. There have been several winners of the PGA Championship and now it appears that Westwood, at the age of 43, is headed in a similar direction.

He has had about 39 victories through the world and, even without winning a major championship, has been the world’s number one ranked player. Luke Donald is another player who has similar statistics, but Westwood has had more chances at Majors than Luke. Westwood had come agonizingly close to winning several times. For instance, the payoff that he got into with Tiger Woods could easily have culminated in his winning the trophy in the 2008 US Open. Even though there have been several instances when Westwood has lost out in the final round, what remains is that, he is running out of age and needs to get his act together if he is to secure a Major win ultimately in his career.

“My equipment has to yield me great results. That’s why I use Lang BBQ smokers,”

This year’s gifts were selected by Love as one of the gifts to go to his team members. Each of the 36” Hybrid Deluxe Units come with a charcoal grill and a smoker cooker.

Dustin Johnson Replace Jason Day

Jason Day was scheduled to play in a fund raising charity program.

But, his back did not allow him to do so. The organizers then approached Dustin Johnson to play game on the behalf of the Day. Johnson agreed to that and now he will be playing against Rory.

The organizers do not think there will fall in foot step in the absence of Day. Reason for same is, if Day is the world’s number one player then Johnson is number two. People will have some fun. This fundraising event will take place on the Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club located in Pampanga. The fund raised by this event will to victims of typhoon that hit a large number of people in the year 2013.

The most interesting thing about the participation of Johnson in the event is Johnson has left Hero World Challenge to participate in this event. Both the matches were scheduled at the same time and Johnson has to pick one. He picked fund raising event.

Dustin Johnson was defeated by Rory Mcllroy in FedEx cup happened recently. The tournament was about 10 Million dollars, which Johnson lost from Mcllroy. Thus, this fund raising match will be interesting to see if Johnson is willing to defeat Rory.

This year had won three championships and this is enough for him to get the PGA tour player of the year award. This would be the first such award for Johnson. Speaking about the event Johnson said “I like playing against Rory and if I am getting another opportunity to play against him then it is going to be fun. Moreover, with this event, I will go to the Philippines where I have never been to” He further added that “Rory is a strong player and it is like a win-win situation”.

Mickelson Presents Commemorative Wedges To Steffen

The most popular golfer Phil Mickelson is currently playing at the 2016 US PGA tour championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey.

He is taking part in this event that he had won about 11 years ago. The win at the US PGA tour event was his second major title in his career that he won in 2005.

This year was made special by Mickelson when he presented his friend and the Baltusrol PGA Head Professional Doug Steffen with a special gift to appreciate his long term yeomen service to this club. The gift that Doug Steffen received was not an ordinary one. It was commemorative PGA Championship wedges for this head professional, who has been serving Baltusrol since 1997.

There would not have been a better time for Mickelson to choose than now to give a commemorative gift for his dear friend as the head professional will be retiring in a few months time. Doug has done great service for this New Jersey golf club for the past 20 years. This will be the final majors that Steffen will be hosting in Baltusrol as he retires at the end of this year.

Callaway, the club sponsor of Mickelson, made two commemorative wedges for Steffen that was custom engraved. Doug Steffen eyes lit up when he saw this gift from Mickelson and there is no doubt that he was pretty pleased to receive this prestigious gift from his old pal. He is really pleased to see the finished product.

Mickelson and his sponsor Callaway wanted to send him off on a high note, considering all that he has done for the Baltusrol Golf Club. Hence, they thought about this unique gift. A logo was engraved on the matte black PM grind wedge using laser beams and the club has really come out well.

Mickelson all set to be a threat at the Masters at age of 45

Phil Mickelson would be the 4th oldest champ in the history of major golf if he manages to win his fourth Masters title and sixth major crown on Sunday at Augusta National.

And thirty years after Jack Nicklaus became the oldest champ in Masters’ history with a victory for the ages, Phil warns that he is playing as well as he has in ten years.

Phil Mickelson told that he does not feel old at all. He feels great. He feels like he is in some of the best shape he has been in. He is driving the ball better than he has in well over a decade, and his game is coming along.

Julius Boros, who became victorious at 1968 PGA Championship at the age of 48, is the oldest champ in major golf history, followed by Old Tom Morris at 1867 British Open as well as Nicklaus at 1986 Masters, both at 46.

Phil will turn 46 on 16th June, the day of the 1st round of US Open at Oakmont, where this left handed golfer will attempt and complete a career Grand Slam by capturing an event at last where he has been the runner-up a record 6 times. Mickelson has not got a title since he got hold of 2013 British Open at Muirfield, but he was 2nd at the Pebble Beach, 5th at Doral and shared thirteenth last week at the Houston Open.

Mickelson told that he feels like the game is beginning to be very easy again. The driving average distance of Mickelson is the same this year as it was in the year 2003, even though at 40th it ranks fifteen spots lower than it did thirteen years ago, a sign of the ball whacking younger gen after his footsteps.

Phil Mickelson Confident About Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods might have been out of the field given his constant injuries but his peers are still confident about him. One of them is golf champ Phil Mickelson who remarked that he won’t be surprised to the former # 1 contending at the upcoming Masters.

This year, Tiger has just played 47 holes and came up with his worst of scores ever – 82 round in Phoenix Open.

However, post multiple social low-rounds in Medallist Club (Florida) & a couple of practice rounds in Augusta National 2015, the 4-time Masters champ has confirmed his availability in the first Major in 2015.

On the contrary, Phil had placed himself in a good state for his 1st victory thus year prior to his unfortunate round 3 in Shell Houston Open.

“Every individual must look for what enables them to put their best & Woods hasn’t ever been the one to swing prior to a Major- but when it comes to me, I have always preferred to play in the very week before”, remarked Phil.

“Now that Woods has declared to play the Master championship, it is not at all surprising for me. I am quite confident that he would play well although he hasn’t played golf for 2 months. He carries such grand knowledge about Augusta.”

“I do not feel that his issues with chipping this year would be of much significance this time as he would be chipping uphill & putting downhill. One could putt right from off green on several holes & that takes block out of Tiger’s hands”, Mickelson stressed while speaking about Woods great possibilities.

On the other hand, Paul Casey must be in a great mood of late as he is finally getting to play masters this year post a long absence of 4 years.

Phil Mickelson part of US PGA Tour

Phil Mickelson is a professional golfer from the United States of America, who is currently a part of the US PGA Tour. He is a five time major winner, having won three Masters titles, and one Open Championship and PGA Championship each during his long career which has seen him win 42 titles, which puts him at ninth in the list of all time PGA Tour winners.

The veteran American is one of only 16 golfers in history to have won three out of the four major titles during his career. The only major title that he hasn’t been successful in winning is the US Open, where he has been a runner up on six consecutive occasions, which is a record.

The veteran golfer has spent a whopping 700 weeks inside the top ten of the Official World Golf Rankings and has reached a career high of number two in the rankings several times. He even has an exemption on the US PGA Tour. Phil Mickelson is known for his fierce left handed swing, which has earned him the nickname Lefty, although otherwise, he is right handed.

He graduated from ASU in 1992 and turned professional that same year and joined the US PGA Tour, bypassing the qualifying school due to his win at Tucson in 1991 which had earned him a two year exemption. He hired his caddie Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay in 1993 and he remains his caddie to this day, even after 22 years.

Phil Mickelson enjoyed the most productive years of his career in the early 2000s and he won three of his five major titles in the span between 2004 and 2006. He also came second in the US Open twice during this period.

Mickelson was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2012.
