Pernilla Lindberg showed some good form in the opening round of the ANA Inspiration. She birdied on the final hole to grab the lead position on the opening day. She has a one-shot lead over Charley Hull.
The opening day belonged to Hull despite being in the 13th position on the table. She had a very poor beginning of the day’s play. She had a very slow start and had to bounce back from behind to stay on course to be in contention for the first major title for women this year.
Hull came to the turn on one over. She even had to face a bogey-five on her 10th hole. She then got her game going and posted five birdies towards the closing stretch
Lindberg was in good nick throughout the day. She had a very good 65 at Rancho Mirage. This helped her to move to seven under. This is the play that earned her the top spot. She was able to get over the score of Ayako Uehara.
Ayako was the pacesetter for the morning. Through the process, Lindberg also got the better of Beatriz Recari of Spain to jump the leader and stay on top of the leaderboard. The second place after the opening of the ANA went to Ayako and third place was bagged by Recari.
The fourth spot belongs to Ha Na Jang and Jessica Korda. Lexi Thompson, the runner-up of last year’s event, is also in the mix. She is one among the six players who have a 4 under.
Lindberg got to the turn in 33. She made gains in the 2nd and the 6th. She made her seventh birdie of the ANA opening at the par-five ninth.
Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Bronte Law of England are also in the group with two under.
